Tejaswani Priyadarshini a 14 year old girl from Rourkela Odhisha, has created a very unique device that gives a whole new dimension to bicycles by allowing it to run on air.
This “air bike” instead of using pedals runs by propelling air. This bicycle can run up to a distance of 60 km, with the help of the 10kg cylinder of compressed air which is mounted on the bicycle.
At a time when the whole world is trying to deal with the global climate wretchedness by cutting down on the usage of the fossil fuels extracted from resources like coal, oil, gas, petrol and diesel; has opened greater possibilities of using wind and solar energy. Tejaswani’s innovation came into the picture at this time to save the environment.
When Tejaswani who is a student of class 10 of Saraswati Sishu Vidya Mandir of Rourkela visited a bicycle-repair shop and there she saw air guns being used by the mechanics to detangle knots in a bicycle tyre.
Her father helped her out to carry out this experiment. They bought an air tank with an inlet for filling water after going through several experimental processes. The tank was fitted with a measuring dial. To release the amount of excess air a starting knob and a safety valve were also connected.
The machine works when the knob is turned on. After which the air from the cylinder is transferred to the air gun placed near the paddle which helps in rotating the gear with the help of the six different sizes of blades. It also sets the cycle in motion.
This technique can also be implied in cars and motorcycles. Differently abled person can also use this bicycle. For her brilliant invention Priyadarshini has also won several accolades.
When Charity world spoke to the principle of Priyadarshini’s school, Saraswati Sishu Vidya Mandir, Mr Sunil Kumar Patel, he said that we ask our children to work on different science project every year. The best project was of Tejaswani. With her this project her father as well as the teachers of the school helped her immensely. Her project will be showcased in several state as well as national level exhibitions.
To curb the usage of fossil fuels that is causing much harm to the environment, bicycle is an eco-friendly solution to it.
If this innovation is used in cars and motorcycles, then people will not have to spend on petrol and diesel bills.
